Tips and tricks for great hair conditioning

November 22nd, 2009 hair extensions pro No comments

Avoid using shampoos that will strip your hair and leave it dry. Shampoos that are formulated to cleanse well but not strip Black hair are the only shampoos we recommend. Depending on the length of your hair, the chemicals you have in, the natural texture of your hair and the condition it is in, you can manipulate your hair to varying degrees when you shampoo. We will describe two ends of the spectrum.

If you have short, naturally straight hair, with no chemicals processes done to it, then you can give your hair and scalp a good scrubbing and suffer little or no damage, or consequences.

If you have long, relaxed and or coloured treated hair, then we ask that you treat your hair as you would a fine silk blouse. Do not scrub or rub your hair while shampooing, it’s not necessary in order to achieve clean hair. You may damage the cuticles of your hair in the process. Gently massage the shampoo into and through your hair, working it into lather on your scalp as you gently remove dirt and dead scalp cells. We recommend that you shampoo two to three times, rinsing well between shampoos.

Condition your hair every time you shampoo it. You may not always have time to do a deep condition but there are conditioners that rinse out after only a few minutes and others that can remain in after applying. Conditioning is one of the most important things you can do to upkeep your hair’s appearance and health. After shampooing your hair, press the water from your hair, first with your hands and then with a towel.

Always avoid rubbing the hair at all times, as your hair is at its weakest condition when wet. Avoid brushing or over manipulating your hair when it is wet, doing this may lead to breakage.
If you have longer hair, always start the detangling process with your fingers first, then move on to a wide toothpick or comb. Avoid pulling and straining your hair.

Conditioners will not repair your hair once it is damaged. They may affect its look and feel, as well as detangle and improve the wet combability of your hair. But they will not repair any structural damage present in the hair.

A reconstructor, if it has been formulated with the proper ingredients, may be able to repair external and internal damage to some extent. It depends on the amount of damage already present.

The use of a leave-in-conditioner is recommended to seal and protect your hair from airborne pollutants, weather elements as well as to help prevent damage from thermal styling tools. Mineral oils clog pores. They should not be used on your hair or scalp as dressings. Read your products ingredients and if you see mineral oil or any petrolatum product as an ingredient, make another choice.

There are many other products that will do a much better job. Ask your stylist to explain the latest products and make a recommendation for your hair type. Hair can be sunburned, be careful of the sun. If you are going to be spending any time in it, protect your hair with a hat or by a applying sun blocking product.

A thermal protection product is a must if you frequently blow dry, or curl your hair with a curling iron. They contain conditioners and polymers that form a protective barrier around your hair that can help it withstand the heat from thermal styling tools.

Artificial hair integrations are used to add length to human hair. Hair Extension or Integration is a method of adding commercial hair to natural hair. These methods are used to conceal thinning or hair loss in concentrated areas.

Hair extensions are made from a range of human and synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers include Kanekalon and Toyokalon, and can differ from brand to brand. Synthetic hair in general is far less expensive than human hair, and is available in a wide array of colors and textures, from natural to extraordinary.

There are many different types of Hair Extensions on the market, but for the sake of simplicity we will focus on two main types of application methods: Individual Strands and Wefts

The Individual method involves taking small amounts (maybe 20-50 strands) of extension hair (natural or synthetic, but we’ll get to that later) and applying to small sections of your own hair by either weaving in, heat fusing, gluing, clamping with metal rods or using waxes and polymers. All of these methods (except for the clamping which is self explanatory) involve coating your own hair with a chemical or foreign substance. These extensions usually only last a few months before they have to be taken out and completely re-done. The main problem with this method is taking the Hair Extensions out without damaging your own hair.

The misnomer of ‘tracks’ comes from the common, long-lasting method of integrating wefts, known as the ‘track and sew’ method. The ‘tracks’ are usually cornrows, braided in the direction of how the hair will fall. Toward the face or away, with or without a part, the tracks build the foundation of how the end result will look. The wefts are then sewn onto the braids, usually with a specially made, blunt-ended needle. The needle can be curved or straight. There are many different colors of specially made thread to choose from, depending on what color of hair you will be integrating. Darker hair lends to darker thread. Wefts can be made by machine, but the best wefts are handmade. A weft looks like a little curtain of hair attached together at the top and free flowing at the bottom.

Wefts may also be bonded directly to the client’s hair using special bonding glue. Care must be taken not to bond the wefts directly to the scalp, as it can cause sensitivities in some clients. A patch test is frequently recommended, as per manufacturer’s directions

Shampooing of artificial hair integrations can be as easy as shampooing real hair, with some considerations. For instance, many manufacturers suggest using a mild shampoo, or even a wig shampoo.

Hair extensions are a great way to adorn your lifestyle so have fun and treat yourself. They make your hair look gorgeous. Hair Extensions is quick way to get longer and fuller hair. There are many types of Hair Extensions on the market, but two main types of application methods: Individual Strands and Wefts. Most people choose to use them to lengthen or thicken their existing hair, nevertheless using them for non permanent highlights and lowlights is also becoming increasingly popular.

Hopefully you had the extensions removed in time and your follicles will recover and begin producing thick, strong hairs again. But if your follicles were permanently damaged, there`s not much you can do. Sadly, there is no secret millionaire`s product that can solve your problem; there is no known medical treatment for late-stage Traction Alopecia.

But beware girls there are some drawbacks. Once you make the decision to have extensions put in, you better sit down, get comfortable and don’t make any plans! It can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 hours to have extensions put in, depending on your style. Also, the cost is on the higher end, so extensions usually aren’t a spur of the moment purchase.

Custom Made Hair Extensions I can custom make hair extensions using remi cuticle hair (best) to match your texture, curl pattern, highlights, lowlights in any length or volume that you want. I can make them for the i-tip/link fusion method or the adhesive fusion methodso they can be reused mutliple times or I can make skin wefts for bonding in. I can also rebond old hair. for the strand/fusion method I charge 35 cents a bond & can sell the links at 10 cents a link. you cant get more custom or cheaper.

There are several types of modacylic fibers, two of the most popular used in synthetic hair are Kanekalon and Toyokalon. Kanekalon hair looks more realistic in regards to color and texture but it tends to tangle and mat very easily. Toyokalon hair, on the other hand, is a softer synthetic hair that does not tangle as much as Kanekalon, but the hair color and texture does not look as natural.

Bonding is a method that is used for temporary extensions when you want to add length or volume for a few days or for a special occasion. This method works well for creating an up-do on someone with short or medium length hair. Your new hair is on a weft (hand knotted on length of mesh fabric). Sections of the weft are attached in a row directly to your hair with special hair glue. This allows the hair to lay very flat on the head.

Indian Remy hair extensions are one of the most popular types of extensions from the businesswomen to the Hollywood stars. We know our customers want long lasting gorgeous hair. That is why we take our time when selecting each batch of our Indian hair for a product you can rely on. Hair extensions can make you look like you have long, beautiful hair. They can also provide dramatic colors to otherwise dull looking hair. However, before you decide to opt for hair extensions here is a guide on selection, tips and risks involved.

Selecting the extensions

Selecting the extensions

First of all, make sure to select an appropriate color of hair extensions. They must ideally match your hair color or be at least a shade as close as possible. Ofcourse, there are exceptions to this rule. Sometimes, you might want a bolder look in which case vibrant colored hair extensions are also available. This way, you can have a dramatic look to your hair. Other than color, you also need to select only the highest grade and quality of hair extensions as these last very long and do not damage easily.

Different techniques used

Different techniques used

When it comes to application of hair extensions different techniques are in use. Glues can be used to attach extensions to your hair while non-glue techniques can also be used. There are also weft techniques of applying extensions in which case tracks are used onto which the extensions get attached. Then these wefts are attached to the sections of hair as needed. There are also clip-on extensions which are by far the easiest to use as you can attach these yourself. These extensions, as the name suggests, come with clips using which you can attach them to your hair.

Risks associated with hair extensions

Risks associated with hair extensions

Most hair extension procedures when done professionally in a salon are relatively risk free. However, certain precautions need to be taken when undergoing a hair extension procedure. For instance, proper aftercare and conditioning is critical as is regular washing of the hair. You also need to know that only clip types of extensions can be applied on your own and for all other types of extensions professional assistance is mandatory. You must also stay away from too much heat as it damages the extensions. So that means excessive usage of curling irons or blowdryers.

Pros and cons of using extensions

Pros and cons of using extensions

Just as anything else in life with hair extensions too there are the good and bad sides to it. Let’s look at the bad side first. If you have used the glue attaching method to apply the hair extensions then it can wear off within 3 months of application. Then the extension bonds will begin to weaken therefore will have to be removed. In addition, extensions can cause split ends and damage your real hair. If you wish to grow out your natural hair then think twice before going for an extension as it can damage the natural hair when used extensively. Now comes the good part about hair extensions. They instantly create a whole new look to your hair. You can swap new looks by trying on different textures, styles and colors of extensions. You can also attach beaded or braided extensions to create new looks. It also saves you the hassle of actually growing out your natural hair while seeing how long hair looks on you.

How to apply hair extensions?

You could always visit a professional salon to get your hair extensions applied. However, if you are the DIY kind who loves to get hands on with things then you could apply hair extensions on your own as well. Here are some things to look out for as well as useful tips and tricks.

Get the tools in place

Get the tools in place

Firstly, before you begin attaching your hair extensions you need to ensure that all of the tools are in place. The last thing you want is to go searching for the tools while you are in the middle of applying an extension! Make sure you have a comb, hair clip and hairspray to keep your hair partitions in place.

Sectioning your hair

Sectioning your hair

Make sure to comb back all of your hair so that it is separated from the rest of the face. Then, slowly partition the portions of this hair so that you can easily place the extensions on each section. If you happen to have long hair then a high quality grip will help to keep the hair in place. You might also want to place a grip on top of the hair to keep the hair in the same place.

Using the clip extensions

Using the clip extensions

This is probably the only kind of hair extensions that you can apply on your own. The other variants are only meant to be applied under professional supervision. When you are using the clip hair extensions then make sure to apply a bit of hairspray onto the hair first. This will add volume and firmness to the hair texture. Then open up one clip of a hair extension piece and place it on the back of the hair. Continue this process until you have reached the front portion of the hair. The way to add the clip type hair extension is to gently place the clip on the portion of hair you want to attach it to. Then clip it on and continue with all of the clip extensions.

Glue based method

Glue based method

You can also use glue to bond the hair extensions onto the portion of hair you want. However, it is recommended that only a professional stylist perform this for you. You can achieve a long and flowy look by using the modulating technique. You can also apply lots of extensions by using a glue which is high in keratin. However, if you have thin hair, then do not try this technique as the bond can look very thick or may show.

Non glue methods

Non glue methods

You can also apply hair extensions without usage of glue. You can choose to braid the extensions on your hair or use tiny tubes to attach the extensions. Sometimes, even dental floss can be used for attachment and then removed leaving an invisible thread. Silicon pads can also be used for a softer mode of attachment using manual methods. Microcylinder shells can also be used at times along with a silicon coating to attach the extensions on a strand basis.

Once you have attached your hair extensions finish off by applying hairspray and then gently brushing downwards starting from bottom and then working your way up.

Know About Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are a great way to adorn your lifestyle so have fun and treat yourself. They make your hair look gorgeous. Hair Extensions is quick way to get longer and fuller hair. There are many types of Hair Extensions on the market, but two main types of application methods: Individual Strands and Wefts. Most people choose to use them to lengthen or thicken their existing hair, nevertheless using them for non permanent highlights and lowlights is also becoming increasingly popular. Fake or human hair extensions can be summed to enhance the look of your hair.

Human hair grows approximately 1 cm per month on average. The extensions hair most likely has gone through some type of de-colorization process and then re-colored to get it the to color that it is now. There are hundreds of methods used to apply hair extensions and just as many types of hair. The most popular system out now is the strand by strand method made by companies such as Great Lengths, Hair Dreams and Socap.

Fusion: A process in which the extension hair is attached directly to your own hair by heated glue sticks. In this method, and acrylic glue stick is placed inside a glue gun, which heats and melts the glue. Then, the extension and the glue are attached directly onto the individual’s hair.

Hair comes in many qualities and apart from the method of application; the quality of your hair extension hair will determine whether or not they will look real, and how long they will last.

Hair extensions should not be more than twice the length of your normal hair. Never go to bed with them wet, but always tie your hair up when sleeping, this will help prevent tangling and other such problems. Run your fingers through the braids to get rid of tangles, doing so regularly will help prevent them too. Don’t brush harshly and tug at the extensions, as this can loosen and damage the bonds which hold them to your scalp. When you brush, use a brush with soft bristles and work your way up from the bottom to the top, using the brush gently.

Hairlocs – This system utilizes a small metal tube that has been pre-tipped with an adhesive. It is very similar if not almost identical to Eurolocs. Once the metal tube is threaded onto your own hair, a lock of pre-tipped hair is inserted into the tube and then it was clamped, so to speak, thereby adhering the extension hair to your own without the use of hot or cold adhesive.

Mini links or locks are another method and are applied a bit like gimps which are used to hold beads or pearls on wire floater necklaces. The client’s own hair is pulled through the mini link with a special needle similar to a knitting machine needle. Then the extension strand is pulled through the mini link easily. The mini link is then pressed firmly with a pliers type tool and this locks in the hair into the mini links. No glue is used, so glue damage is avoided and the links lie flat to the head. This method is often combined with braided hair extensions.
